Kartheiser talked to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet at the premiere of In Time, which will open in theaters on Oct. 28. In the Andrew Niccol-directed film, the only way to stay alive is to buy or steal more time. Kartheiser admitted that he is -- like many of the characters in the film -- afraid of death. "I think we're afraid of the unknown. I run from death. It terrifies the hell out of me," he said. "There's a scene in which I gamble with Justin Timberlake, and I like poker, so it was kind of fun," said Kartheiser. Kartheiser is best known for his role as Pete Campbell, the brown-nosing account man at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce on Mad Men. In both his Mad Men role and his part in In Time, he plays a well-off man, who is living a very privileged life. THR asked Kartheiser if that was a challenge for him. We're all much luckier than people born in Bolivia or West Africa," he said. Stories have circulated in the past about Kartheiser not owning a car in Los Angeles and living in a very small home. It was once rumored that he didn't even have a toilet. "I think it's modest in comparison to the most extreme of people," he said. "I used to have no car and everybody thought that was some big modest thing, but, no I spend a lot of money and I'm pretty lazy."
