Fresnadillo circles 'Highlander' reboot

Summit Entertainment is within discussions with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to direct its reboot of ''Highlander.'' Move comes 2 yrs after Summit had set Justin Lin to direct and Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis to create its reboot of ''Highlander,'' striving at turning the fantasy actioner right into a franchise. Lin ankled several several weeks ago to direct the sixth installment from the ''Fast and Furious'' franchise. Summit acquired the ''Highlander'' remake privileges in 2008 from Davis-Panzer Prods. and designated ''Iron Man'' scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to pen the script. Summit has not cast stars or set a start date for production, but it is clearly wishing that it may attract the ''Highlander'' fanbase, developed in the last 2 decades. The initial 1986 film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. It released four sequels and three TV spinoffs. Fresnadillo reaches the Toronto Film Festival for Monday's premiere of ''The Burglars,'' a drama starring Clive Owen and Daniel Bruhl.
